What reviewers have already said:

“Workers of all descriptions in all kinds of workplaces will readily identify with this series. This could become a classic sitcom, though doubtless it will raise a few middle class PC eyebrows on the way, particularly among those who have no comprehension of how working folk on the shop floor and industry manage their diversity with spirited humour and pragmatic solidarity.”

Dave Douglass – NUM

“Very funny, would make a wonderful television series.”

Steve Pope – of X Press Books and New Nation. Former Editor of The Voice.

“If the bosses ever find out what went on we’ll all get the sack. You rotten sod”
Hull night shift worker who worked with the writer and who is now a Shift Manager

The Night Shift is the voice of the UK factory floor in an age of globalisation when production is shifting to the low wage economies of the far east and the workshop of the world has become the warehouse of the just-in-time economy. What happens to shopfloor banter and working class wit in such a society is recorded here as ‘I’m All Right Jack’ meets ‘Waiting for Godot.’

Alex Gordon – Secretary of South Wales and West of England Council of the RMT

“I like the scripts, reminds me a bit of [Samuel] Beckett and Charlie Chaplin with a sprinkling of seventies sitcom such as On the buses or Love thy neighbour.” Guardian journalist Simon Hattenstone.

“Extremely funny with factory floor characters so real they seem surreal. But like all good humour rooted in experience it retains a Kes-like authenticity so difficult to capture. This should be a prime-time TV series.”

Gary Horne – Former BBC Panorama Producer

“One of the best writers of Northern gritty comedy dialogue.”

Oscar winning producer Ruth Kenley-Letts.

“Pacy, racy and lively, very funny. Fools and Horses mixed with the Rag Trade.” Journalist and writer Christian Wolmar.

“Real gritty stuff which made me rock with hysterical laughter”
‘Rising Damp’ technician Peter Boden.

“darkly subversive. Irvine Welsh meets Mike Leigh in the real Full Monty. Guaranteed to piss of every politically correct poseur from left, right and centre who has never worked a nightshift, realised the madness of the jobs we do and had their humour faculty lobotomised.” Mick Gosling –Ex-TGWU branch sec at Fords Dagenham.

“I loved every line. It was utterly hilarious and left me wanting more. I would love to see this on Television and think it would work very well.”

Richard McCann – author of best selling book ‘Just a Boy’

“Very, very funny. Reminded me of a number of night shifts I’ve worked”

Ray Jones – AMICUS official

“Hugely enjoyable. Vivid descriptions ensure a colourful read”

Daily Mirror Journalist Kevin Maguire in the Tribune Magazine

“It is an excellent book”

Jill from Kent

“You will be hearing from my solicitor with a personal injury claim for aching side” Andy, 20 years on nights after his daughter gave him a copy to read.

“Enjoyed it”

Al, Partisan Press in the USA

“Funniest book I’ve read in ages”

Tommy, factory floor worker from Peterlee, Co Durham.

“What a great laugh”

Dick, post-room worker at GLA

“I haven’t laughed so much from reading a book in years.”

Georgina from London.

“Our shift has had a great time reading this at break-times.”

Gary, Sunderland.

London Building Worker Kenny
